National Zoo: One Of DC's Best Kid Attractions

Flag review

An excellent zoo with a spectacular variety of animals in high-quality environments. Especially known for its panda couple and their enclosure. Like all national museums and attractions in DC, it is free, though parking is not. Bear in mind that it is built into a hill, which can affect your (and kids') energy level, particularly in the heat of a Washington summer (though on the hottest days they have intermittent "mist showers" built along the walkways to cool you down).

Tips for Families

Study an online map before you go to help decide where to park along this vertical layout (you may not have a choice on busy days). At the very bottom there's a children's farm, popular among the youngest.
