From Yasgar to Yoga

Flag review

From Yasgar to Yoga.. Bethel Woods Center for the Arts and Museum has so many year round activities. It makes a great day or weekend trip. Whether you go as a couple of a family, you will find so much to do. The Annual Harvest Festival which began on Labor Day weekend and continues every Sunday in September, is a wonderful event for friends and families alike. With endless food and craft vendors, tastings, a corn maze and pony rides for the little children, you will not be disappointed! You can stay in one of the nearby bed and breakfast as there are literally still hundreds of them in the Sullivan county region. A few larger hotels still exist but can be more pricey, but they have meals and their own events included. Back to Bethel, they host YEAR round events such as a Yoga festival in the fall, Sunday with friends: a Chamber music series, Childrens movies in December, Holiday market, and of course their amazing summer concert lineup. With acts such as Earth Wind and Fire and Van Halen, you will be transported to the 80's in no time, or to the 60's if you enter the Museum. Please visit Bethelwoodscenter.org for more information and to plan your trip, visit scva.net!

Tips for Families

Stay at an area hotel vs a b and b, unless there is a farm involved, where the children can feed the animals. Travel during the week or non-holiday weekends if you can, or make it a day trip.

Red Rock Resort and Spa

Flag review

LAS VEGAS ROCKS! (Red Rocks) When friends and family asked me how long it is has been since I visited Las Vegas, I gave them a rough estimate. 15 years? They stressed how much Las Vegas has changed and that I would not recognize the Strip. How could I NOT recognize the strip, it stands out and goes for miles and the night lights are enough to light a small city! (low energy bulbs of course). However, they were right. There are so many more 5 star hotels, famed attractions and top restaurants then when I was there the last time. Jet Blue offers ongoing direct and very comfortable flights out of JFK to Las Vegas. For example, the new Wynn hotel is now paired with the even newer Encore hotel. As its name would imply, Encore mirrors the outside look of the Wynn. It is part of Steve Wynn’s signature hotel group. Encore displays the ultimate in luxury, style and beauty. The classic Mirage hotel along the Las Vegas strip, has recently revived their famous outdoor Volcano Show, with a lot more fire and show for the money (it’s free!) Couples who share this experience are sure to “feel the passion from the flames.” The Mirage also plays host to the unique Beatles LOVE show. Even if you only know a few Beatles songs, you will truly enjoy this Cirque Du Soleil masterpiece. Set to a full range of Beatles music, and filled with human acrobatics and costumed dance, Beatles LOVE is a must see while visiting Las Vegas! Off the strip Is there anything to do OFF the strip in Las Vegas you may ask? Spas? Nature? Sports? Aboslutely! You can visit Green Valley Ranch in Henderson, NV or Red Rock Spa Resort in Summerlin, NV. Both resorts are part of the Station Hotels Group and each is within a half hour of the famous strip. Both hotels have their own casinos and eclectic restaurants. Red Rock Resort is truly breathtaking. For those who do not wish to gamble, there is so much else to do at this 3 year young resort. You won’t miss the slots. However, if slots are your thing, be sure to hit the “Gold Fish” machine. This musical PENNY machine will entertain you for hours without emptying your pocketbook! Red Rock also has its own movie theater and 24 bowling alley. For casual dining you have the food court or the Grand Café and the Feast Buffet. For more elegant dining, T-Bones is your choice. A nouveau steakhouse, T-Bones also serves baby green salads, jumbo sautéed shrimp and much more. The waitress will make you a mean Stoli vodka “elite” drink. Try it with a twist or a juice, or else you will look as dizzy as I did, after just one (or was it half of one?) I was lucky enough to dine there as part of a couple. It is a very romantic restaurant. Red Rock offers extensive conference amenities and plays host to conferences on a regular basis. The nationally recognized Rubie’s Costume Company, held their annual costumes conference here at this time. What a perfect place Las Vegas is to have a “costumes” conference. “All the world’s a stage” in Las Vegas, according to Marc of Havin’ a Party, located back in Brooklyn, NY. If you need MORE pampering and relaxation, then be sure to head to Red Rock’s full service holistic spa. Replete with a wide variety of spa treatments such as classic facials and full body massages, the Spa at Red Rock will spoil you and your senses. The Spa at Red Rock uses all natural products and their well-trained staff will educate you on the products and cleansing methods which are best suited for you. Beyond the spa is a brand new top of the line gym. You will never wait for a treadmill or miss out on pilates style exercises during your workout. They have numerous zen styled, palm tree lined outdoor pools. The spa themed guest rooms at Red Rock are nothing short of spectacular. The trick here is to see how long you can stay in the bubble bath while watching your favorite musical performances on the flat screens above your tub. Appropriately named, Red Rock Resort and Spa is situated within miles of Red Rock Canyon. A natural wonder, the canyons are native to the southwest region of the United States and more specifically to this particular region, in Las Vegas. They offer regular hiking and riding trails. If snowboarding and skiing is your thing, you want to visit Mt. Charleston, in Las Vegas. Did I say skiing and snowboarding in LAS VEGAS? Yes! So, whether you visit Vegas for the gambling, the nightlife, the scenery or just to reunite with friends and family and to fall in love, it is all there for you in Las Vegas, Nevada!

Tips for Families

Stay off the strip at place like red rock resort or green acres, visit the strip during the week vs the weekend, with children. take the monorail. bring plenty of sunscreen and travel in mid spring or fall.

Specatular Spring Skiing!

Flag review

Camelback Mountain Resort is great for both skiers and snowboarders. It is a perfect location for all season skiing, but especially in the early spring. When the frigid cold has finally subsided but there is still plenty of snow on the ground. Lifts and trails are significantly quieter, giving a skier or snowboarder more time out doing what they love. Camelback is also a great place for families. Plenty of private or group lesson options remain for the tots and adults. The instructors are patient and extremely experienced. If you want to stay near the mountain, "slope side," then The Chateau Resort is the place. They often offer a groupon which includes a $30 dining credit. Chateau is a little older but clean and convenient. Camelback now offers a unique attraction called the Mountain coaster. It is a roller coaster over the snow, riding along a steel track around the mountain. I believe it is most appropriate for older children through adult age. At only $9 a ride it is well worth the adventure. Camelbeach will open again for summer fun and a multitude of water park rides. The new Cameback Resort and Spa, slated to open in May of this year, will offer a wide array of spa and indoor waterpark packages. Again, great for couples and families, Camelback is convenient to NYC at just over 2 hours away. With so many area restaurants, the Crossings Outlets, Mount Airy Casino and much more within a few miles of Camelback, you will have no excuse not to visit! For more information on the NEW Camelback Resort and Waterpark, or to order your season ski passes for 2015/2016, visit: www.skicamelback.com/

Tips for Families

During ski season, stay at the chateau resort, great with a groupon at $59 a night and up and a dining credit. For couples or even families, mount airy has an amazing buffet and $2 off with a players card. Weekday visits are usually always quieter. Bring extra bottled water. Try to avoid driving on Route 80 at night and with children. Rt 78 across may be a better bet, and if you go this way, you can bring your kids to Crayola Factory in Easton PA on the way to Camelback or on the way back home

At Crayola, the Crayons NEVER QUIT!

Flag review

Crayola Experience in Easton, PA offers so many activities for children and families. There are numerous hotels to stay nearby as well and wide variety of family friendly dining options. Crayola is a short drive as it literally just over the PA/NJ border. An easy day trip or you can make a long weekend out of it by visiting the Poconos or Allentown, Pa. Crayola experience has 3 floors, each filled to the brim with crayon making, hands on workshops, live shows demonstrating just how crayons are made. Adults can explore the rich history of crayola and be taken back to their own childhood. Just the mere scent of a crayon is enough to transport anyone back into a simpler earlier time, with colors such as "magenta" and "sand." They have a gift shop which is a trip in and of itself. You can just visit the shop if you like, on the first floor and pick up gifts for members of every age, in your family. Crayola Experience offers birthday party spaces which are great for either toddlers or tweens. The price is right as far as similar attractions go, and the annual pass is the way to go, as it pays itself off in only 2 visits. So, if you are seeking a fun filled day or overnight trip from NY, NJ and the surrounding areas, head to crayola for a magical experience!

Tips for Families

Stay just outside of easton, in allentown, pa as this may offer slightly lower room rates, many family friendly hotels and nearby nature/ river tours. great yogurt and sandwich place right next door or crayola has a pretty nice cafe as well. Best during school season, as it can get very crowded in the summer and holiday break periods. However, anytime is best to go, especially in the mornings, when it tends to be less crowded. Great for school and girl/boy scout groups and the like. enjoy!

Day out with Thomas the Train was a real HIT!

Flag review

The annual Day out with Thomas, which travels around the country, made its stop at the Phillipsburgh NJ station this past July. Located only minutes from the Pennsylvania border, this is a great spot for a Thomas event. You can easily spend hours there and the whole day if you want to include a visit to the Crayola Factory, in Easton PA! Thomas delighted my son who was in awe at seeing him "live" and riding his train. The 20 minute train ride takes you through some old spots in Phillipsburgh while playing music from the show and giving each child a big certificate. Being July, it was a very hot day, so hand held fans are suggested and the train only had fans, but with windows open it was fine. They offered children live entertainment, magic shows on the hour and a whole host of thomas train sets, and related toys, under a covered tent area. Up the hill, where you would first enter for the Day Out, was the "gift shop" offering tons of unique Thomas related toys and gifts, in a wide variety of price ranges. There were vendors on hand offering free tot snack samples, bubble machines and much more. So, next time you are planning a "day out" or a "day trip" try and include Thomas the train, boys and girls alike will love it! www.events.hitentertainment.com/en-us/dayoutwiththomas

Tips for Families

Stay about 20 minutes away at The Inn at Pocono Manor, great rooms and family movies, along with an amazing buffet breakfast.
