Beaches, and Pirates, and Lighthouses! Oh My!Flag review
St. Augustine is a wonderful location for a relaxing or eventful family vacation. You can spend your days lounging on the beach, jumping in the waves, chasing crabs in the surf, or building sandcastles. You can walk the cobblestone streets of downtown, peeking inside all of the eclectic little shops, and stopping in to grab some Columbian food or some ice cream. The kids get to be a fellow pirate on a trip on the Black Raven Pirate Ship, complete with musical instruments and a take home pirate hat. Your older kids (there's a height requirement) will enjoy taking the walk to the top of the St Augustine Lighthouse while the younger kids can learn more about the lighthouse and local history in the attached museum. The city of St. Augustine also has one of the nicest wooden playgrounds that the kids could spend an entire day at if they were allowed, but maybe you'd like to take them over to the nearby Fort and learn about the history of St. Augustine. If you have time you should take a short drive over to the Fountain of Youth park and learn about the legends and early settlers who came to St. Augustine. You can even bring a bottle of the spring water home with you! If you still have the energy or would like something to do in the evening after a long day at the beach there are several great miniature golf courses that the kids will just love.
Tips for Families
Hit the beach early to get a good spot before it gets crowded. You don't have to stay at the fanciest of hotels. There is easy access to it from almost every hotel on the main strip. Great trip for kids and history buffs alike!
