My Travel Style

I consider myself a "Reluctant Traveller." I feel that travel is the greatest gift you can give your children. I grew up in a family that loves to travel. Although I have come to really not enjoy the process, particularly air travel, once we get there, travelling is great!

A Must Stop if you're near the 14 Freeway!

Flag review

The only Musical Road in the USA is located off the 14 freeway in Southern California. Driving over the grooves in the road will play the tune recognized as the theme from the Lone Ranger (William Tell Overature)! It is a great place to stop on the way to or from many many destinations in California. It's a quick off & on from the 14 freeway in Lancaster, CA. The added bonus is there is a large park (Apollo Park) and small Aviation Museum (Milestones of Flight) adjacent to the road...a perfect stop for little ones to get out and run off some energy. The Musical Road was featured in a Toyota (?) TV commercial a few years back. It really is a unique thing to do and should not be missed if you're in or passing through the area. It's not great, but I included a movie-sound clip from my i-phone.

Tips for Families

Be prepared to do this multiple times...lol!

Don't Miss a Visit to the Midway if in San Diego!

Flag review

THe midway is an amazing look at what life on a ship is really like. Older kids will really enjoy the tour of the entire ship. There are headphones included in the price of admission. For smaller kids, I suggest splitting time between the simulators/cockpits you can climb on in the interior of the ship in main area where you pay-enter and the main deck topside where there are more planes to climb in and on. This is NOT someplace to take a stroller if you tour the entire ship. Many ladders and steps.

Tips for Families

Be sure to make time to run around and climb on the main carrier deck! There are several planes you can climb in and on!

Kapalua Villas--use the facilities & amenities of the Ritz for a fraction of the price

Flag review

We stayed here for my sister's wedding in Maui. There is a shuttle that will take you all around the property--golf, mini golf (free), several beaches, restaurants, general store, other villas. It is an enormous property. We took surf lessons and had a blast!

Tips for Families

Rent a Villa. We Had a full kitchen, living room, washer-dryer and several pools to choose from.

Breakfast With Shamu--A+++

Flag review

If you're going around Christmas, I highly recommend breakfast with Santa & Shamu. The breakfast is actually really good, but the best part is how close you are to the action. Shamu performs right next to your table!!! The trainers walk around the room and answer any questions your or your kids have. Santa also walks the room and is extra charming! There are many photo ops. The animals are fresh first thing in the morning and are on their A game.

Tips for Families

If you're not getting a multi-day ticket that includes parking, you can park for free at Perez Cove and it's the same distance (if not closer) than the Sea World Lot.

Amazing Experience--Dublin, Ireland

Flag review

THis place is great for families. So much to do on the property and adjacent Powerscourt Gardens. A short drive to Glendlough and less than an hour to Dublin. The property itself is simply magical.. The lobby is warm and inviting, with several cozy fireplaces with sitting areas. The grounds include a secret garden and a larger than life chess set! We were there over the American Thanksgiving holiday and the hotel was prepping for Christmas. They installed a life-sized gingerbread house and magical Christmas decorations. Bring your swimsuits as there is a Swarski Crystal Swimming Pool (hard to photograph) located on the lower level that is a must! The people in Ireland are warm, friendly and love children.

Tips for Families

Great kids club located on the property. Love the special check in for kids. They have a magical staircase that the kids climb up, "register' at the desk and are given some paperwork and a stuffed animal. Rooms have a fridge, so head into Enniskerry and pick up some PB&J, bread and snacks at the local market as eating exclusively at the property can add be spendy.
