You'll Be Amazed, Even If You're Not a Train Enthusiast

Flag review

The Choo Choo Barn is a 1,700 square foot model train layout housed in one large room with space to walk around the layout. The mini-sized, detailed scenes of local landmarks in Lancaster County are simply incredible. Every ten minutes, the room transforms from day to night and everything lights up. There are 22 operating trains and more than 150 animations, such as an Amish barn-raising, a circus and parade, a ski resort, real moving water and fish, and a fire crew that comes to put out a house fire. My daughter loved the circus, while my favorite was the house fire - it was really cool watching the fire and smoke start, then seeing the fire truck drive from the firehouse to the fire, raise its ladder, and spray real water on the house. Quite amazing for a model train layout.

Tips for Families

Choo Choo Barn inexpensive and you can spend as much time there as you want - I'd recommend 30 to 60 minutes to enjoy all the details. They offer a scavenger hunt for kids, and if you go during the month of December, you'll see Santa's sleigh flying overhead and you can challenge yourself to find all the hidden Santas! This is a great last stop on your trip through Lancaster and, unlike many places in the area, Choo Choo Barn is open on Sundays.

Beautiful Zoo, Park & Picnic Grounds

Flag review

The Cape May County Park & Zoo houses an impressive array of animals, along with special exhibits, a train ride, and a carousel. The grounds around the zoo include a beautiful picnic area with plenty of tables, a playground area, and hiking trails. The zoo is clean and the grounds are well-kept. Perfect place to pack a picnic lunch and spend the day with the family. Admission to the zoo is free.

Tips for Families

Don't miss the peacocks that roam freely around the grounds - a big hit with my kids!
