Beautiful Hotel on the Water

Flag review

The lobby of the hotel is stunning, immaculate and decorated in sailboat themes. The bathrooms are beautiful and clean. The staff greeted us every time we walked by. There were plenty of seating areas. There is a nice pool area and there is a glass elevator to the top floor which are loft style and you can see all the way to the top from the first floor. Rooms appear clean and comfortable. It's right in the heart of Newport and you can take the boat harbor shuttles within a short walk of the hotel.

Tips for Families

If you like a little fun get a room on top floor for the best views.

“Big Room with thin walls and loud clientele”

Flag review

First the good-- then the bad. Good 1. Large room with updated furniture but outdated 80s lamp and artwork. 2. Very Large bathroom with sink from the 80's kinda retro cool, with large clean tub and awesome water pressure with plenty of heated water. 3. Modern flat-screen TV with good range of channels. 4. Blackout curtains with a window that actually opens for fresh air. 5. I did not see any ants in the room at all, I did see one down in the breakfast room one morning. One and it was tiny. 6. The toilet seat was loose when we arrived, they sent someone up to fix it right away. 7. Check-in was easy and they were personable and let me see the rooms before I chose which one I wanted. 8. Included breakfast - decent with microwavable hotpocket type eggs, hardboiled eggs, melon fruits, juice, coffees, teas, bagels, donuts, muffins, etc. Not bad. 9. Wi Fi was not working the first night or day we were here. It is working now though. Seems to be fast. Whenever it was out, we told the front desk and they fixed it. 10. Fairly easy to get to on a main road.. quick run to downtown Newport, there is a shuttle, but I think they charge you 8.00pp. Better off parking at St. Pauls Church at Thames and Coddington (and off Charles St.) $5.00 all day on your honor. 11. Large cold fridge, microwave, coffee pot, alarm clock and blow dryer. 12. Blow dryer is basic hotel model not very powerful, but works in a pinch. 13 Clean room, clean sheets, good cleaning service. Tip them please Bad 1. There is no elevator and the upper rooms are probably quieter since you won't hear anyone above you. 2. It really feels like the people in the next room are in the same room with you even when they are speaking at normal levels, nevermind when the drunk ones come home loud and obnoxious at 2am... it will wake you up. Maybe take a room in the back end of the hotel instead of the front, but those might not be updated or as large. Check them out first. 3. Two full sized beds one was comfortable and newer, the other was older and seemed springy. 4. The hallways and main entrance are dated and someone put tape and twine to fix the broken brass handrail on the stairs, not only an eyesore, but a dangerous fix. Carpets are worn. 5. Front desk was nice, but one guy seemed to be on his cell phone most of the time, leaving all the work to his co-worker who seemed to be running around more...maybe he was in training, he was nice and helpful though. 6. For the price we paid it was just okay, I have paid half the price elsewhere and had a nicer experience, but not in RI, in other areas like Cape Cod and Mystic. Though the large room and large bathroom is a plus. That's why I say it is average, not terrible and not great for the price. But it is memorial weekend on Rhode Island. If you can get a room here for under 80.00 I say go for it. 7. Restaurant is good with good food and service but really smells up the main hall and a little in the rooms above it.

Tips for Families

Try upper floor for quiet room but there is no elevator so be prepared to walk steps. Avoid rooms above restaurant, but check them to see how updated and large they are, we were fine with the one one second floor above restaurant. Try to avoid room in front of hotel above entrance near the entrance people tend to congregate and talk loudly outside that area.

“Decent room - creepy exterior.”

Flag review

When we arrived, the front outside of the lobby was being renovated So had to walk around and take a side entrance. Place has a weird, depressing vibe to it... reminded me of a long term stay "motel." There are no halls, you get to the rooms from the outside, even then top floors. For the price, the room is a good size and double beds comfortable enough. The bathtub was a bit moldy looking and so was the bath mat. The lobby itself is nice, staff just ok. I was not impressed by this "hotel." The pools are heated and appear clean. The breakfast is not included, and was a buffet, Again, it was just ok, I would go to Denny's or Ihop which you can walk to. The wait staff seem like they'd rather be anywhere than here. I am sure there are nicer places in Orlando to stay, for around the same price. We only stayed one night so it wasn't so bad, good accommodations for a quick or cheap stay while visiting local attractions. I would try a different place when we come back for a longer stay when my child gets a bit older. If you're on a budget, it's good I guess. Rooms are updated and flat screen tv is a plus. There is a playground for the kids.

Tips for Families

Request a room on a high floor in 2000 or 3000 building with view of pool if you have older kids... it's a little scary walking outside the building to get to the room.

Overpriced - but it's ok. Like Children's Museum Hands on.

Flag review

Nice place but overpriced. Even with 2.00 coupon for two adults and a baby under three it was like 45.00 which doesn't include a 3.00 guide (don't buy it - it's not worth it). The exhibits are things you can do online like quizes and computer games and computer simulations. The hurricane wind is lame. The thrill rides have a weight limit so if you're over 230lbs don't bother. There are basketball throws and a pitching area which are again lame and you can play them at any arcade. Nothing special about the place except the outside and lobby area which is upside-down. Do your self a favor - save some money and stay outside - go in the lobby take some photos enjoy the a/c and -ooh and ah over the stuff hanging on the ceiling and then leave.

Tips for Families

Get the coupons -- They want 3.00 for the guide (don't buy it - it's not worth it).

Always informational and fun visit.

Flag review

I go every year for the craft fair. The people are friendly. If you're in the area it's worth a quick visit for the historical information. It's nice to see how the older houses were built and get a feel for historical houses. The people are always friendly and warm. It's a lovely historical home and place to learn about the Van Wyck family. It's close to the highway 84 and easy to get to. Also great places to eat in the area.

Tips for Families

Go during the holidays for the craft fair. They have good food and baked goods and warm apple cider. Also get your picture taken with Santa - I do every year for my daughter.

Great Food, Nicely Decorated

Flag review

The decor of the main lobby is a dark wood and the place is very large. It was raining and we wanted to check out the resort and pool areas in case of a future stay and perhaps becoming members of the gym. The indoor pool is clean and heated and the hot tub us wonderful. The gym itself and locker rooms, showers, etc are located one floor below the pool which is weird because you have to cross through the hall and go down the stairs to get their and when you're dripping wet from the pool, it's a bit of a hassle. They do sell gym memberships to Atlatis Sports Club and you can use all the pools, etc, and you can get a free pass online to go check it out, great thing to do for a rainy day. They also charge $20.00 per day to use the facility or you can purchase a summer or weekly membership. You could also stay at the hotel if you're vacationing. We had stayed elsewhere and visited. The outdoor pool is gorgeous and inviting. There is a restaurant called Bogey's that looks right out to the pool. We ordered red white and blue chips and the order was huge, I told they waiter we needed another table just for the chips. He was stoic for the most part. There was no one else in the place, he waited on us just the bare minimum. Not overly friendly. He did crack a smile at my comment though. Service could have been a little more friendly. Another server took his place and was a bit more friendly. The chips came with layers and layers of cheese, olives, tomatoes, jalepeno peppers. We scraped the plate clean! It was that good. I had the cheeseburger. It was medium sized and tasty as was the side order of vegetables. My husband was delighted with his meal also Garden Salad with grill chicken, and after having bad meals the day before at other places, we were glad to have something good and tasty.

Tips for Families

I didn't get a chance to visit the rooms because we were actually leaving that day. But I would certainly recommend the place or perhaps stay there in the future based on the pools, lobby, and restaurant.

For the Price, it was awesome.

Flag review

The check in was smooth and they were friendly. Really helped me choose the room that suited our needs. I wanted to be able to go out into the courtyard. The beds were very comfortable and the room was updated and clean. A large fridge and microwave. There were two sinks one in the bathroom and one right outside of the bathroom very convenient. Room was a good size nice desk with big comfy chair. Also side chair and little table. Very nice room. I had a great night sleep. The shower can be adjusted for pressure so make sure you do that when you get in. The water was nice and hot, and lasted a while. The bathroom was clean and there was shampoo and conditioner. It's an older building that they updated and for the price and location, it was really good. Another plus was the hot FREE breakfast. Eggs were not bad and the coffee was decent... was not crazy about the meat they had so I didn't eat it, but for two people and included in the room price... is a plus for sure. Be sure to get the online price and check the actual hotel site to see you are getting the lowest price. The hallways were recently painted but whoever did it could have done a better job - no biggie. The mechanism for our door was sort of failing and had to turn the lever up not down. Again not a big deal.

Tips for Families

You can ask for a room near the pool with two doors one out to the pool or courtyard. Be sure to ask to look at the diagram.

Clean, Updated Hot Powerful Shower

Flag review

I have stayed at many hotels in my life, this is one of the best for the price. Beautiful lobby, friendly staff, Beds are full size in a double room and are kinds smaller than what I am used to and my husband is a big guy. The bathroom is beautiful, large and clean with plenty of towels. We stayed on the city side, but I assume if you have a bay side view, you would have an amazing view of the water. Nice flat screen tv, clean halls and new carpeting it appears. I was very impressed with this hotel and would stay there again. Cute pool area, though we did not use. Heated I believe. Hogan's Beach Restaurant is attached and has great breakfast.

Tips for Families

If you're a couple get a king size room... double beds are just that doubles not queens.

Cool place but pricey stores and attractions - very touristy

Flag review

You can put your little one on some cute rides at Carousel Park and Pavillion for not a whole lot of money. We bought 8 rides for 20.00 (make sure you get a coupon and for the one for boardwalk at the beach not the other ones) A child under 2 or 3 needs a ticket and can ride with one adult (the adult is free). Careful though some of those rides an adult can't fit on or are too big for a baby. Witness Wear is a great place with decent prices for Christian gifts and shirt and ties - get yourself a 5.00 off coupon for purchases over 25.00. Totally worth it. Taxes here are 9%! So be prepared for that. The Yankee Candle is basic BUT they had a sale where all the tarts and sample candles are 1.00 each. We bought a bunch. I want to ride the sea rider speed boat. It's like 14,00 pp for a 5 minute ride -- get yourself a 20% off coupon!

Tips for Families

Get those coupon books at the welcome centers or hotels and USE THEM They are worth it.

Wave Pool is Great rainy day thing to do with kids.

Flag review

If you're not staying at this resort there is a fee to use their facilities. $20.00 on weekdays $25.00 on weekends. There are two slides and the pool has decent waves. It ain't the beach, but on a rainy day with kids, it's the next best thing. There is a 20 person hot tub (it's not really that hot - I like hotter) and two saunas one is hot they other is barely warm, This hotel itself is really wonderful and full of kids who loved playing with my 2 year 10 month old. Beautiful lobby - nice hallways. Gorgeous tapestries hanging in the halls. The place seems very very clean. The front desk staff were helpful and gave me band-aids for my blistered feet. There is a cool game room and they show movies at night for the kids.

Tips for Families

Book Early Great family fun hotel. I can't speak to the rooms as they were sold out for the weekend so we didn't stay here, but from passing some open doors while walking through the halls, I would say clean nice roomy at a glance.
